Potting Soils
___________________________________________________________________________
It's important to use the right soil mix for indoor plants:
(8 dry quarts size bag)
Potting soil, Seed starter soil, Perlite and sand, in a large bucket pour out the entire
bag of potting soil, seed starter soil, 1/3 of the perlite and 1/3 of sand and mix all together.
Than make sure you moisten the soil with water, not soggy but well moist. If you don't water
soil first it will never be moist throughout.
___________________________________________________________________________
Acid loving plants such as Gardenias, Citrus, Hibiscus and Ferns
should add instead of sand use peat moss.
____________________________________________________________________________
For African Violets- Use the african violet potting mix but add some more perlite.
For Palms and Citrus use the soil made for them.
For Succulent and Cactus use the soil that is made for them.
Orchids- Use orchid bark chips, no soil for orchids accept for Jewel orchids.

Re-potting plants and containers
____________________________________________________________________________Re-potting plants only when they need it, if you see roots growing out of the bottom
of the pot or even on top then it's time to re-pot. Always use a pot that is one size larger
never more than that otherwise plant will start to rot and decline. Also do not use deep pots
otherwise your plant will never get enough water towards the bottom.
Clay pots are ideal for most indoor plants, it allows the soil to dry. For violets it is recommended
to use either plastic or ceramic. Any plant that requires evenly moist soil should not use clay pots.
